Crispy Tofu Ginger Steak

April 1, 2018

What comes to your mind when you think of tofu? From my experience, the first thing that comes to my mind is blandness. I think there has been one time where I’ve actually enjoyed tofu (no offence to any tofu lovers out there!). For those of us who aren’t so fond of it, I sought to share a tofu recipe that’s loaded with flavour and would entice even the pickets of eaters. Check out my go-to crispy tofu ginger steak recipe here.

  • 1 pack tofu, drained

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 cup panko

  • 2/3 cup olive oil

  • 1 tbsp. Sesame oil

  • 1 tbsp. rice wine vinegar

  • 1 stalk green onion

  • 2 tbsp. pickled ginger

  • Salt

  • Cayenne pepper

  • Parsley

  1. Beat the egg in a bowl and season with salt, cayenne pepper and dried parsley

  2. Add the panko in a tray and season with salt, cayenne pepper and dried parsley

  3. Dip the tofu steaks in the egg mixture and then coat with the panko mix

  4. In a pan, heat 3 tbsp. of olive oil

  5. Fry the tofu on medium-high heat, rotating until golden (about 6 minutes)

  6. In a small bowl, mix the pickled ginger, green onion, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, olive oil, salt and cayenne pepper

  7. Add the vinaigrette to the tofu steaks and serve
