What comes to your mind when you think of tofu? From my experience, the first thing that comes to my mind is blandness. I think there has been one time where I’ve actually enjoyed tofu (no offence to any tofu lovers out there!). For those of us who aren’t so fond of it, I sought to share a tofu recipe that’s loaded with flavour and would entice even the pickets of eaters. Check out my go-to crispy tofu ginger steak recipe here.
Ingredients:
1 pack tofu, drained
1 large egg
1 cup panko
2/3 cup olive oil
1 tbsp. Sesame oil
1 tbsp. rice wine vinegar
1 stalk green onion
2 tbsp. pickled ginger
Salt
Cayenne pepper
Parsley
Directions:
Beat the egg in a bowl and season with salt, cayenne pepper and dried parsley
Add the panko in a tray and season with salt, cayenne pepper and dried parsley
Dip the tofu steaks in the egg mixture and then coat with the panko mix
In a pan, heat 3 tbsp. of olive oil
Fry the tofu on medium-high heat, rotating until golden (about 6 minutes)
In a small bowl, mix the pickled ginger, green onion, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, olive oil, salt and cayenne pepper
Add the vinaigrette to the tofu steaks and serve
